A client is only charged on a recurring basis once you assign them a plan. One assignment is one client on one plan, and billing starts on the start date you pick. You can assign a plan in three places: on the website itself, from Clients, or while you take a website live. Add the client first if they are not in Clients yet. Assign a plan from the website<\/h2>\n

  1. Open the website.<\/li>\n
  2. Click the Account<\/strong> tab, then Plan<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
  3. Under Client<\/strong>, click Assign Client Plan<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    1. Open Choose plan<\/strong> and pick the plan.<\/li>\n
    2. Open Select client<\/strong> and pick the client.<\/li>\n
    3. Check the Start date<\/strong>. It must be today or later.<\/li>\n
    4. Click Assign Client Plan<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      The plan now shows under Client<\/strong> on the Plan tool. From there you can also remove the plan or unassign the client.<\/p>\n

      Assign plans from Clients<\/h2>\n

      Use this when you are setting up billing for several clients at once.<\/p>\n

      1. In the sidebar, click Clients<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
      2. On the Billing<\/strong> tab, under Plans<\/strong>, click Assigned Plans<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
      3. Click Assign Plan<\/strong>. If the button is disabled, create a plan under Agency Plans<\/strong> first.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

        Fill in the assignment<\/h2>\n

        1. Open Plan<\/strong> and choose the plan.<\/li>\n
        2. Open Client<\/strong> and choose the client.<\/li>\n
        3. Enter an Assignment name<\/strong>. Use something you will recognize on the invoice, such as the website name followed by “website”.<\/li>\n
        4. For a website hosting plan, open Website<\/strong> and choose the website. The list only shows websites without an active client plan.<\/li>\n
        5. Check the Start date<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
        6. Click Assign Plan<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

          1. In the sidebar, click Global Tools<\/strong>, then open Assign Client Plans<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
          2. Click the Unassigned<\/strong> chip. The list shows live and development websites with no client plan. Staging websites are left out.<\/li>\n
          3. Click the Assign Plan<\/strong> icon on a website. It opens that website’s Plan tool, where you assign the plan as shown above.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

            FAQ<\/h2>\n

            Can I assign a plan when I take a website live?<\/h3>\n

            Yes. On the Domains<\/strong> tab, open Go Live<\/strong>. After the SSL and SMTP steps, the Assign plan<\/strong> step asks for Choose plan<\/strong>, Select client<\/strong>, and Start date<\/strong>. Click Assign and Continue<\/strong>, or Skip for Now<\/strong> to assign later. The step only shows when Stripe is connected and you have at least one website plan. See How to take a website live<\/a>.<\/p>\n

            Do I need Stripe connected first?<\/h3>\n

            Yes. Assigned Plans, the Plan tool, and the Go Live step all need Stripe connected. Until then, the Plan tool shows Set Up Client Billing<\/strong> instead.<\/p>\n

            Can I assign a plan on a staging website?<\/h3>\n

            No. Client plans apply to the live website, not staging copies.<\/p>\n

            What is the difference between Cancel and Delete?<\/h3>\n

            Cancel keeps the assignment until the end of the current billing cycle. Delete removes it straight away, so it is not on the next invoice.<\/p>\n

            Is this the same as Account subscriptions?<\/h3>\n

            No. Client plans are what you charge your clients. Account, Subscriptions is what Staq charges your account.<\/p>\n
