{"id":29930,"date":"2022-08-09T03:59:32","date_gmt":"2022-08-09T03:59:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.wpstaq.com\/knowledgebase\/my-website-design-is-broken\/"},"modified":"2026-05-02T03:38:40","modified_gmt":"2026-05-02T03:38:40","slug":"my-website-design-is-broken","status":"publish","type":"knowledgebase","link":"https:\/\/www.wpstaq.com\/sg\/knowledgebase\/my-website-design-is-broken\/","title":{"rendered":"My website design\/layout is broken"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Issue<\/h2>\n<p>You could be experiencing one of these:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>(CDN) My CSS design is broken irrespective of if I&#8217;m logged into WordPress or not; OR<\/li>\n<li>(Website Cache) My CSS\/design of the website is broken when I&#8217;m logged out of the website but it looks fine when I&#8217;m logged into the website.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>The Cause<\/h2>\n<p>The cause could be one of the following:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Using a third-party caching plugin where the cache files have expired and have not purged<\/li>\n<li>CDN issue<\/li>\n<li>An add-on plugin to your page builder or a separate plugin (not a performance caching plugin) needs its cache cleared i.e. Premium Addons for Elementor, Smart Slider 3 Pro and etc)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Diagnose<\/h2>\n<p>Firstly, it&#8217;s best to diagnose the issue by using your browser&#8217;s console. Open your browser i.e. Google Chrome Inspect Element &gt; Console. Do you see any 404 errors?<\/p>\n<p>If it&#8217;s a 404 error, the issue should be clear.<\/p>\n<h3>If it&#8217;s Theme or Page Builder related<\/h3>\n<p>The cause could be from your page builder or theme and you may need to regenerate the CSS file.<\/p>\n<p>Below are instructions on how to regenerate based on popular page builders:<\/p>\n<h4><strong>Elementor<\/strong><\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Login<\/strong> to your WordPress dashboard.<\/li>\n<li>Navigate to <strong>Elementor &gt; Tools<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Under the <strong>General<\/strong> tab, you will find the <strong>Regenerate CSS<\/strong> option. Click on the <strong>Regenerate Files<\/strong> button.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4><strong>WPBakery Page Builder (formerly Visual Composer)<\/strong><\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Login<\/strong> to your WordPress dashboard.<\/li>\n<li>Navigate to <strong>WPBakery Page Builder &gt; General Settings<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Find the option labeled <strong>Custom CSS<\/strong> and click on the <strong>Save Changes<\/strong> button, even if you haven&#8217;t made any changes. This will force the builder to regenerate the CSS.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4><strong>Beaver Builder<\/strong><\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Login<\/strong> to your WordPress dashboard.<\/li>\n<li>Navigate to <strong>Settings &gt; Beaver Builder &gt; Tools<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Under the <strong>Maintenance<\/strong> section, click on the <strong>Clear Cache<\/strong> button. This will clear and regenerate the builder&#8217;s CSS.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4><strong>Divi Builder (by Elegant Themes)<\/strong><\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Login<\/strong> to your WordPress dashboard.<\/li>\n<li>Navigate to <strong>Divi &gt; Theme Options<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>In the <strong>Builder<\/strong> tab, click on <strong>Advanced<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Here, click on the <strong>Clear<\/strong> button next to <strong>Static CSS File Generation<\/strong>. This will regenerate the static CSS files for Divi.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4><strong>Thrive Architect<\/strong><\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Login<\/strong> to your WordPress dashboard.<\/li>\n<li>Navigate to <strong>Thrive Dashboard<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Select <strong>Thrive Architect<\/strong> from the list and go to the <strong>Settings<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Click on the <strong>Clear Cache<\/strong> button to regenerate the CSS.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>If it&#8217;s plugin related<\/h3>\n<p>If it&#8217;s not related to the theme, then see if it&#8217;s plugin related. It could be related to an add-on plugin such as Premium Addons for Elementor, Smart Slider 3 Pro. Please clear their cache to see if this rectifies the problem.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Cache Conflict<\/h2>\n<p>The most probable cause is that you have multiple caching solutions applied that is conflicting with Staq&#8217;s caching service.<\/p>\n<p>If you wish to use Staq&#8217;s caching service (recommended), go to Plugins list of the website and:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>identify any caching plugins and disable them<\/li>\n<li>or go to the theme&#8217;s settings and see if caching settings applied. If so, disable the setting<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>If you wish to disable Staq cache, go to\u00a0<strong>Staq Hosting<\/strong> at the top of the left hand side and disable cache.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>CDN Solution<\/h2>\n<p>If your CSS of the website is broken irrespective of you being logged into WordPress or not, then the most obvious culprit is the CDN.<\/p>\n<p>If the CDN has been previously enabled, it is possible that someone has deleted the CNAME record.<\/p>\n<p>To check the error, go to the status monitor found inside the Websites table:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-27635 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/www.wpstaq.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/activity-minitor-cdn-error-300x238.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"238\" \/><\/p>\n<p>If the CDN is appearing as per the above screenshot, go to the <strong>Staq Panel<\/strong> for that site, then click <strong>CDN<\/strong>. From there, you can hover over the issue:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-27636\" src=\"https:\/\/www.wpstaq.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/cdn-issue-1024x818.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"818\" \/><\/p>\n<p>To rectify, simply click on <strong>Settings\u00a0<\/strong>and retrieve the CNAME record and re-add back into your DNS.<\/p>\n<p>Alternatively, if you click Delete, your site&#8217;s design will be fully restored.<\/p>\n<p>We recommend that you re-enable the CDN option or better yet, host your DNS on Staq and enable Staq Next-Gen CDN.<\/p>\n<h2>Redis Object Cache<\/h2>\n<p>Another culprit could be Redis Object Cache if it&#8217;s enabled.
