Staq gives you two views. Debug shows the latest log lines as a table you can search. Log Files lets you download the raw files.<\/p>\n<h2>Open Debug<\/h2>\n<div>This will only show you the last 1,000 entries:<\/div>\n<ol>\n<li>Open the website in Staq.<\/li>\n<li>Click the <strong>Server<\/strong> tab.<\/li>\n<li>Under <strong>Diagnostics<\/strong>, click <strong>Debug<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.wpstaq.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/10\/server-logs-open.png\" alt=\"Server tab and Debug in the Diagnostics menu\"><\/p>\n<h2>Choose a log<\/h2>\n<ol>\n<li>Click a tab to see that log:\n<ul>\n<li><strong>WordPress<\/strong>: errors and notices from WordPress when WP_DEBUG is on.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Nginx Access<\/strong>: every request to the website, with the time, visitor IP, request, status, and size.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Nginx Errors<\/strong>: errors from the web server.<\/li>\n<li><strong>PHP-FPM<\/strong>: PHP requests that did not go through Nginx access logging.<\/li>\n<li><strong>CloudFront<\/strong>: requests served by Amazon CloudFront. This tab only shows when the website uses CloudFront.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Type in the search box to find a request, an IP, or a status code such as 500.<\/li>\n<li>Click <strong>Refresh<\/strong> to load the newest lines.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.wpstaq.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/10\/server-logs-tabs.png\" alt=\"Log tabs on the Debug page\"><\/p>\n<h2>Turn on WordPress logs<\/h2>\n<p>WordPress only writes its log while WP_DEBUG is on.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Click the <strong>WordPress<\/strong> tab.<\/li>\n<li>Click <strong>Enable WP_DEBUG<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Repeat the problem on your website, then click <strong>Refresh<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>When a row shows <strong>Debug with AI<\/strong>, click it for a plain-English explanation of that error.<\/li>\n<li>Click <strong>Disable WP_DEBUG<\/strong> when you are done.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.wpstaq.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/10\/server-logs-wp-debug.png\" alt=\"Enable WP_DEBUG on the WordPress tab\"><\/p>\n<h2>Open Log Files<\/h2>\n<div>If you want raw server log files, then follow below steps:<\/div>\n<ol>\n<li>On the <strong>Server<\/strong> tab, under <strong>Diagnostics<\/strong>, click <strong>Log Files<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Click a chip to narrow the list: <strong>Nginx<\/strong>, <strong>HTTPS<\/strong>, <strong>PHP<\/strong>, <strong>Access<\/strong>, <strong>Error<\/strong>, or <strong>WordPress<\/strong>. Chips combine. For example, Nginx, HTTPS, and Access shows only <code>nginx.https.access.log<\/code> files.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.wpstaq.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/10\/server-logs-files.png\" alt=\"Log Files with filter chips\"><\/p>\n<h2>Download a log file<\/h2>\n<ol>\n<li>Find the file. Today&#8217;s log has no date, for example <code>nginx.https.access.log<\/code>. Older days end in the date and are compressed, for example <code>nginx.https.access.log-20260929.gz<\/code>.<\/li>\n<li>Click the <strong>Download<\/strong> icon on that row. To download several files, check them and use the download action above the list.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.wpstaq.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/10\/server-logs-download.png\" alt=\"Download icon on a log file row\"><\/p>\n<h2>FAQ<\/h2>\n<h3>Which log files are there?<\/h3>\n<p><code>nginx.http.access.log<\/code> and <code>nginx.https.access.log<\/code> hold requests. <code>nginx.http.error.log<\/code> and <code>nginx.https.error.log<\/code> hold web server errors. <code>nginx.rate-limit.log<\/code> lists requests that were rate limited. <code>php-fpm.access.log<\/code>, <code>php-fpm.error.log<\/code>, and <code>php-fpm.slow.log<\/code> cover PHP. <code>debug.log<\/code> is the WordPress log, written while WP_DEBUG is on.<\/p>\n<h3>How long are logs kept?<\/h3>\n<p>Each log starts a new file every day. Older days are compressed and deleted automatically after a set number of days.<\/p>\n<h3>Can I get the logs over SFTP?<\/h3>\n<p>Yes. They are in the <code>\/logs<\/code> folder at the root of the website. See <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wpstaq.com\/knowledgebase\/ftp-access\/\">FTP access<\/a> for the SFTP details.<\/p>\n<h3>Why is there no CloudFront tab?<\/h3>\n<p>The tab only shows when the website serves traffic through Amazon CloudFront.<\/p>\n<h3>Can I leave WP_DEBUG on?<\/h3>\n<p>Turn it off when you are done. It writes to <code>debug.log<\/code> on every error, and the log can grow fast.
