This is expected and comes down to how each platform calculates visitors.<\/p>\n<h2>How Google Analytics Tracks Visitors<\/h2>\n<p>In GA, <strong>Total Users<\/strong> is defined as:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cThe number of unique users who triggered any event in the specified date range.\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/support.google.com\/analytics\/answer\/12253918?hl=en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">[Source: Google Analytics Help]<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>This tracking is based on browser-level events, cookies, and JavaScript execution on the frontend of your site. As a result:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Users who block cookies or JavaScript will not be tracked.<\/li>\n<li>Visits from bots, API calls, or background services are excluded.<\/li>\n<li>The same user on different devices or browsers may be counted as separate users.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>How Staq Tracks Visitors<\/h2>\n<p>Staq uses a server-level approach to calculate what we call <strong>human visitors<\/strong>. Here\u2019s how we do it:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A human visitor is defined as a <strong>unique IP address<\/strong> detected by our system as non-bot (human).<\/li>\n<li>Each IP is counted only <strong>once per day<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>The daily counts are aggregated across the month. For example:\n<ul>\n<li>If the IP <code>1.2.3.4<\/code> visits the site 100 times on the 15th and 200 times on the 16th, we count it as <strong>2 human visitors<\/strong> for the month (1 per day).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Why the Numbers Differ<\/h2>\n<p>The discrepancy often comes down to these key differences:<\/p>\n<table border=\"1\" cellspacing=\"0\" cellpadding=\"8\">\n<thead>\n<tr>\n<th>Staq<\/th>\n<th>Google Analytics<\/th>\n<\/tr>\n<\/thead>\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td>Tracks all server-level requests (HTML, API, Cron Jobs.)<\/td>\n<td>Tracks only frontend browser activity<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>Uses IP-based logic to define unique human visitors<\/td>\n<td>Uses client-side identifiers (cookies, JS)<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>Counts each unique IP once per day<\/td>\n<td>Counts each unique user over the selected date range<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>May count legitimate API access if identified as human<\/td>\n<td>Does not track APIs, cron jobs, or backend activity<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<hr \/>\n<h2>False Positives?<\/h2>\n<p>Staq has strong bot detection to avoid counting non-human traffic. In rare cases, a sophisticated bot might appear human (and get counted). However, this is uncommon due to our layered heuristics and threat models.<\/p>\n<h2>Reporting<\/h2>\n<p>If you wish to see what is causing the traffic, you can log into the backend of the WordPress followed by clicking <strong>Staq Hosting &gt; Firewall<\/strong>. Under <strong>Access Log<\/strong>, you can view recent data. If you wish to run a report, click <strong>Reports<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h2>Summary<\/h2>\n<p>Staq provides a broader view of your site\u2019s true traffic footprint\u2014including human visitors that GA may miss.
