Assigning a Client to your agency custom plan

On this page

A client is only charged on a recurring basis once you assign them a plan. One assignment is one client on one plan, and billing starts on the start date you pick. You can assign a plan in three places: on the website itself, from Clients, or while you take a website live. Add the client first if they are not in Clients yet. See How to create a client and request their card details.

Assign a plan from the website

    1. Open the website.
    2. Click the Account tab, then Plan.
    3. Under Client, click Assign Client Plan.

Assign Client Plan on the website Plan tool

    Choose the plan and client

    1. Open Choose plan and pick the plan.
    2. Open Select client and pick the client.
    3. Check the Start date. It must be today or later.
    4. Click Assign Client Plan.

The plan now shows under Client on the Plan tool. From there you can also remove the plan or unassign the client.

Choose plan, Select client, and Start date on Assign Client Plan

    Assign plans from Clients

Use this when you are setting up billing for several clients at once.

    1. In the sidebar, click Clients.
    2. On the Billing tab, under Plans, click Assigned Plans.
    3. Click Assign Plan. If the button is disabled, create a plan under Agency Plans first.

Assign Plan on the Assigned Plans page

    Fill in the assignment

    1. Open Plan and choose the plan.
    2. Open Client and choose the client.
    3. Enter an Assignment name. Use something you will recognize on the invoice, such as the website name followed by “website”.
    4. For a website hosting plan, open Website and choose the website. The list only shows websites without an active client plan.
    5. Check the Start date.
    6. Click Assign Plan.

Plan, Client, Assignment name, and Start date on Assign Plan

    Find websites without a plan

    1. In the sidebar, click Global Tools, then open Assign Client Plans.
    2. Click the Unassigned chip. The list shows live and development websites with no client plan. Staging websites are left out.
    3. Click the Assign Plan icon on a website. It opens that website’s Plan tool, where you assign the plan as shown above.

    FAQ

Can I assign a plan when I take a website live?

Yes. On the Domains tab, open Go Live. After the SSL and SMTP steps, the Assign plan step asks for Choose plan, Select client, and Start date. Click Assign and Continue, or Skip for Now to assign later. The step only shows when Stripe is connected and you have at least one website plan. See How to take a website live.

Do I need Stripe connected first?

Yes. Assigned Plans, the Plan tool, and the Go Live step all need Stripe connected. Until then, the Plan tool shows Set Up Client Billing instead.

Can I assign a plan on a staging website?

No. Client plans apply to the live website, not staging copies.

What is the difference between Cancel and Delete?

Cancel keeps the assignment until the end of the current billing cycle. Delete removes it straight away, so it is not on the next invoice.

Is this the same as Account subscriptions?

No. Client plans are what you charge your clients. Account, Subscriptions is what Staq charges your account.
