How to create a staging site

On this page

Create Staging Site is in the environment switcher in the Staq Panel header. It is not a Files rail item. The dialog can copy the whole site, or leave parts empty.

    Open Create Staging Site

    1. Open the Dev or Live website in Staq Panel.
    2. Open the environment switcher next to the site name.
    3. Click Create Staging Site.
    4. Enter a unique Website ID.

Create Staging Site in the environment switcher

    Choose how to create it

    1. Under Clone method, pick Full Clone or Choose What to Clone.
    2. Full Clone copies the database, plugins, themes, and content.
    3. Choose What to Clone lets you leave Database, Themes, Plugins, and Content empty.
    4. If any part will start empty, tick the confirm checkbox.
    5. Click Create Staging. Wait on the create page until the site is ready.

    Create a blank staging site

    1. Click Choose What to Clone.
    2. Under Leave these empty, turn on Database, Themes, Plugins, and Content.
    3. Those four start on. Leave them on for a blank site.
    4. Tick I understand database, themes, plugins, and content will start empty.
    5. Click Create Staging.

Leave these empty toggles for a blank staging site

    FAQ

Can I create a blank staging site?

Yes. Use Choose What to Clone. Leave Database, Themes, Plugins, and Content empty. That is still a staging website from this site. It is not a new website from the create-site flow.

    Where is the new site?

Staq opens the create page for that staging website. Open it from Websites when that page says it is ready.

    Can I sync back later?

Yes. On the staging website, use Sync Staging. See how to sync staging.

    Need some help?

Open a support ticket if the control is not in Staq, or the change does not save.
