How to stop DDoS attacks
Issue
You may be experiencing a slow website and suspect that it is due to a DDoS attack.
Below are the tools to diagnose and stopping the attack.
Assessing Logs
Head over to your WordPress site and then go to Staq Hosting —> Firewall. Under Access Log, review the Request Time along with the IP Address. Are you noticing simultaneous connections that look unnatural and appear to be bot-driven?
Bot driven traffic appears to be simultaneous requests over a large period of time.
Solution
If Staq hasn’t automatically banned the particular IP address and you’re comfortable to say that it is a bot or a malicious attack, you can click the red button to block the IP Address:

If you are unsure, you can click the IP Address and it’ll take you to the WHOIS IP page so that you can assess further details such as
- is it a logged-in WordPress user?
- what type of requested URLs were requested

Based on the information, you can ban or leave the IP Address.
Using ‘Under Attack Mode’ – Cloudflare
There are two options on how you can enable “I’m Under Attack”.
I’m Under Attack Accessible via Staq Dashboard
If you have Cloudflare integrated inside Staq and the integration falls under the domain that is under attack, you can quickly enable “I’m Under Attack” feature inside Staq. To enable this, go to the site’s Staq Panel and under Domains, click CDN and under Cloudflare, click Details:

From this screen, click Enable Under Attack Mode:

Once it’s not required, you can disable it by clicking Disable Under Attack Mode:

Alternatively, you can log into Cloudflare and from the main dashboard, you can enable Under Attack Mode:
