SendGrid IP Access Management

On this page

If you’ve ever had your SendGrid API key compromised, you’ll know how painful the aftermath can be — bad actors sending millions of spam emails using your account, obliterating your sender reputation, incurring thousands in email costs, and ultimately leading to a banned SendGrid account.

Worse yet? You’ll need to regenerate a new API key, reinstall it across all your client sites, clean up domain reputation issues, and go through SendGrid’s support queue just to get back online. Oh — and SendGrid will likely tell you that you should have enabled IP Access Management in the first place.

With WPStaq, we’ve taken care of that for you. If you integrate SendGrid through Staq, you can now enable IP Access Management directly inside the panel — locking down access to your SendGrid API key so that only requests from verified IP addresses can use it. This is a powerful security feature you no longer have to think about. Just switch it on and breathe easy.

    Before You Start

To use IP Access Management, you must first integrate SendGrid via Staq. If you haven’t done this yet, follow our guide here:
    Integrating SendGrid with Staq

Note: Please make sure that the SendGrid API key that you’re using is exclusive to Staq and not used by other hosting services given that those server IP addresses will be blocked if it’s a shared API Access Key. You can create additional API Keys to avoid this risk.

How to Enable IP Access Management

This is literally enabled in 1 click and then you can view all IP addresses sync into SendGrid once it’s enabled. See how it works below.

Once SendGrid is integrated, IP Access Management is disabled by default. To enable it:

Go to Global Settings > SendGrid:

You’ll see your existing integrated SendGrid account. Click the triple dots followed by IP Access Management:

    Enable IP Access Management

A popup will appear where you’ll need to enter your current IP address:

    Add IP Address to SendGrid

Note: You must enter a valid IP address (e.g., your home or office) before you can enable this feature. This prevents accidental lockouts inside your SendGrid account and ensures only verified IPs are allowed. Staq automatically detects your current IP address where you can easily copy/paste it.

    Adding More IPs Later

Let’s say you’ve enabled this while at the office, but later you’re working from home and can’t access your SendGrid dashboard. That’s because your home IP isn’t yet on the approved list.

No problem — just log in to Staq again, go to Global Settings > SendGrid and click the triple dots, followed by IP Access Management, and add your home IP as an additional entry. Once added, you’ll regain access to the SendGrid UI from that location too.

This is one of those small but critical usability gaps that SendGrid doesn’t solve natively — but we do.

    Automatic Sync of Staq IPs

Once IP Access Management is enabled, you’ll see Staq infrastructure IPs synced automatically into your SendGrid dashboard:

    Staq IP Addresses Auto Synced

    This includes:

    • IP addresses from your live environment
    • Staging environments if mail is enabled
    • New sites created in the future

This process is triggered when you enable SendGrid inside WP Mail SMTP feature inside Staq Panel.

Fully managed. No manual input required. If you go live with a new site tomorrow, its IP will be added automatically so your email delivery stays secure — no extra steps, no gaps.

    Summary

    • Stops unauthorized use of your SendGrid API key
    • Protects your email reputation and domain standing
    • Prevents billing spikes caused by spam or abuse
    • Works for live, staging, and future sites automatically
    • One less security risk your agency has to manage manually
