How to export a website from Staq to your own hosting environment
If you or your client are looking to migrate a website from Staq to another hosting environment, follow the steps below. This guide covers how to provide the necessary files and access to ensure a smooth migration.
Recommended Migration Methods
There is two methods on migrating data out of Staq to your new hosting environment:
- via Staq Backup files
- using a tool like All-In-One WP Migration
Via Staq Backup Files
Follow these steps to retrieve and migrate your website files manually:
Create a Manual Backup
- Ensure you have the latest version of the site data by creating a manual backup.
- Refer to this guide for instructions: Creating Backups on Staq.
Download Website Components
Download the following files separately from the backup:
- Database
- Plugins
- Themes
- Files, including media uploads
Set Up the New Environment
- Create a new WordPress environment on your new hosting platform.
- Using FTP, upload all the files (excluding the database) to their respective locations in the WordPress directory.
Import the Database
- Use a database management tool, such as phpMyAdmin, to import the SQL file into your database.
Search and Replace URLs
- Update the database to replace old URLs with the new ones for your hosting environment. Use tools like WP-CLI or plugins to perform the search and replace.
Take the Site Live
- Ensure everything is working properly in the new environment before launching the website.
Note: Staq does not provide support for migrations to third-party hosting environments.
Using All-In-One WP Migration or Other Plugins
A more straightforward method involves using a backup plugin. Here’s how:
Install a Backup Plugin
- Install a tool like All-In-One WP Migration on your WordPress site.
Export the Site
- Use the plugin to export the entire site, including the database, themes, plugins, and files.
Set Up the New Environment
- Create a new WordPress installation on the target hosting platform.
Import the Backup File
- Use the same plugin to import the backup file into the new WordPress installation.
Advantages:
- No need for manual file transfers or database imports.
- Easier for users without technical expertise.
Conclusion
Both methods allow you to migrate a website from Staq to a new hosting environment. For a seamless process:
- Choose the manual method if you have technical experience and need granular control over the migration.
- Opt for a backup plugin for a simpler and faster migration process.
If you encounter any issues, consult your new hosting provider for support during the migration process.
