How to manually update Plugins/Themes faster using Staq Plugin Manager
Sometimes, you would prefer to manually update plugins/themes for each individual website rather than using automated solutions for greater control and precision.
That’s why at Staq, we’ve built a solution that allows to manage plugin updates inside Staq rather than using the update solution inside WordPress.
Staq has a clear benefit compared to updating plugins/themes directly inside WordPress. The key reason is that Staq has an AI regression testing tool that will check to see if the website has thrown any critical errors and if it does after an update, it’ll automatically do a roll back to the previous plugin/theme version.
WordPress plugin updates itself does not do this.
Grasping Staq’s Management Concepts
In Staq’s ecosystem, there are 3x critical management concepts you should familiarize yourself with, each represented in the Management column:
- Installed on WordPress but not managed by Staq means that the plugin is a standalone WordPress plugin, irrespective if it is both installed inside Staq or inside the WordPress site.
- Managed for all your sites (Global-level) means that the Staq Global Plugins feature manages the plugin. All you have to do is update the plugin once in the Global Plugins repository and it’ll automatically update the plugin on each website that has that particular plugin set to Managed for all your sites (Global-level).
- Managed for all sites (Staq-level) means this is administered by Staq itself.

View Version Update
You can view if a plugin/theme is out of date. If you hover over the icon, it’ll tell you the latest version.

To perform a manual Plugin update
To perform an update, click Manage Updates, the blue button on the top right.
You’ll be directed to a screen that shows you the list of plugins that require updates.
Efficiently Managing Updates with Bulk Actions
When dealing with multiple plugins, it can become cumbersome to update them individually. Staq’s bulk update feature aims to simplify this process, allowing for efficient and streamlined updates.
Bulk Plugin Update
Within the Manage Updates section, you’ll be ushered to a new screen showcasing all plugins awaiting updates. For a hassle-free, collective update, simply click the Update All button. This activates an asynchronous process, ensuring all plugins are updated. Subsequently, our Regression Testing is run to ensure site stability.
Should you wish to prevent specific plugins from updating, simply select the plugin and click Exclude.

Manual Update
For those who prefer to maintain a hands-on approach or require granular control over updates, Staq offers a manual update option. To utilize this, locate the desired plugin, click on the adjacent dropdown menu, and select Update. This action will initiate the update process for only that particular plugin.

Themes
The same UX of how to update plugins is the same with Themes. Go to the Themes page inside the Staq Panel to repeat.
