How to diagnose when a Global Plugin isn’t updating across your sites

On this page

Ensuring that plugins are updated across all your WordPress sites is crucial for maintaining security and performance. However, sometimes, you may encounter issues where a global plugin fails to update on certain sites. Here’s how you can diagnose and resolve such issues effectively using Staq:

    Diagnosing Update Issues

Go to Global Plugins screen and identify the plugin.

Click the triple dots (more options) next to the plugin name and select Website Installs:

And then you can see the status of all sites and find the problematic site.

Hover over the version number associated with that site to reveal more details about why the update didn’t occur:

You can then force the update by clicking the triple dots against the site by clicking Install v<version_number>:

    FAQ

    • Why didn’t the plugin update automatically across all sites?
      • Automatic updates may fail due to various reasons, such as conflicts with other plugins or themes, compatibility issues, or manual overrides. Diagnosing the specific reason using the “Website Installs” section helps pinpoint the issue.
    • Can I override the automatic update and manually update the plugin?
      • Yes, you can manually trigger the update process for a specific site by selecting the “Install v<version_number>” option from the plugin’s settings.

    Conclusion

Diagnosing and resolving issues related to global plugin updates across your Staq-hosted WordPress sites is essential for maintaining security and performance. By utilizing the “Website Installs” feature within the Global Plugins section, you can quickly identify sites where updates haven’t occurred and understand the reasons behind it. Whether you choose to diagnose the issue or manually update the plugin, Staq provides the necessary tools to ensure your plugins stay up to date across all your sites effortlessly.
