How to use Cloudflare Proxy with a Staq hosted site

On this page

    Cloudflare offers a powerful proxy feature that enhances website performance and security. However, when using Staq hosting with LetsEncrypt SSL, there are limitations regarding Cloudflare proxy usage. This knowledge base article explains how to navigate these limitations and provides solutions for utilizing Cloudflare proxy with Staq hosting.

    Can I Use Cloudflare Proxy with Staq?

    Yes, provided that you follow our guide on how to integrate Cloudflare with Staq.

    If you cannot generate an API token inside Cloudflare, then, please follow the guide below.

    When you cannot access the Cloudflare API token

    If you do not hold user privilege to generate an API token inside Cloudflare, but you wish to enable the proxy feature of Cloudflare, there’s two scenarios that you can apply.

    Manually toggle on and off proxy for SSL to generate

    By default, Staq uses LetsEncrypt for SSL certificates. It auto-renews every 3 months. Before it expires by 3 days, disable proxy, then auto-renew the SSL inside Staq. To do so, go to the site’s Staq Panel, followed by SSL. Then click Renew Free Certificate.

    Then, enable proxy again inside Cloudflare.

    Custom SSL Certificate

    The alternative method is managing your own SSL certificates. You will need to generate a custom SSL certificate and manually apply it inside Staq.

    Please note the following:

    • you will need to manually renew each SSL certificate;
    • we recommend ZeroSSL.
    • to validate the SSL certificate, we recommend using file upload or DNS method.

    For detailed instructions on adding a custom SSL certificate, refer to the following KB article: How to Add a Custom SSL
